The latest Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment news release

was issued today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Highlights are below.

In March, unemployment rates were higher than a year earlier in 309
of the 369 metropolitan areas, lower in 40 areas, and unchanged in
20 areas. Among areas for which March 2008 payroll data are available,
221 metropolitan areas recorded over-the-year increases in nonfarm
employment, 82 reported decreases, and 7 had no change.
