Who is Jean-Claude Trichet? The current president of the European Central Bank, Trichet succeeds Wim Duisenberg as the ECB chief. His decisions have vast influence over the fate of the entire global economy. In the midst of a global economic crises he continues to argue that there is no risk of deflation and maintains the ECB’s lifelong obsession with inflation.

Who is Lucas Demetrios Papademos? Papademos is currently serving as Vice President of the European Central Bank since 2002.

Who is Axel Alfred Weber? A German economist and president of the Deutshe Bundesbank since April 2004. As president of the bank of Europe's largest economy, Weber has undoubtedly a strong influence on the single currency.

Jean-Claude Trichet
Born 20 December 1942

The current president of the European Central Bank since 2003, Trichet ranks 5th on Newsweek’s list of the world’s most powerful. He was born in Lyon, France and educated at the Ecole des Mines de Nancy. He later went on to the Institut d'etudes politiques de Paris (best known as Sciences Po) and the Ecole nationale d'administration, two French higher education institutions in the field of political science and state administration.

In 1993, he became the governor of Banque de France. On the 1st of November 2003 he took Wim Duisenberg's place as president of the European Central Bank.

In 2006, Trichet won the Vision for Europe Award for his contributions toward greater European integration. Among the many prizes awarded to Trichet throughout his career, he was named ‘Central Banker of the Year’ in 2008 and ‘Central Bank Governor of the Year’ in 2008. He has also been awarded honorary doctorates by a number of top universities.

Lucas Demetrios Papademos
born 11 October 1947

Is the current Vice President of the European Central Bank.

Papademos attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, gaining a degree in physics in 1970, a master’s degree in electrical engineering in 1972, and a doctorate in economics, in 1978.

He followed an academic career at Columbia University, as well as serving as Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in 1980. He joined the Bank of Greece in 1985 as Chief Economist, rising to Deputy Governor in 1993 and Governor in 1994.

Since 2002, he has been Vice President of the European Central Bank. He is also a member of the Academy of Athens, and a professor of the University of Athens.

He is the author of numerous articles and essays and is a ‘Grand Commander of the Order of Honour’ in Greece.

Axel Alfred Weber
Born 8 March 1957

Weber, a German economist, has been the president of the Deutsche Bundesbank since April 2004.

Axel Weber studied economics and public administration at the University of Konstanz from 1976 to 1982, concluding with a teaching diploma.

He was a research assistant in monetary economics at the University of Siegen from 1982 to 1988 and was awarded a Doctorate in 1987. In 1994 having passed his Habilitation qualification he went as a Professor to the University of Bonn, from where in 1998 he went to the JW Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main where he is a member of the Advisors' Board until today. He also served as the Director of the Center for Financial Studies in Frankfurt am Main. In 2001 he became Professor of International Economics at the University of Cologne, and from 2002-2004 he was a Member of the German Council of Economic Experts. In October 2002 he became a member of the expert advisory panel to the Deutsche Bundesbank.

Axel A. Weber has been President of the Deutsche Bundesbank and Member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank since the 30th of April 2004. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
