The ECB maintains its refinancing rate to its historic low at 1%.

The European Central Bank kept its rates unchanged at the end of the Board of Governors’ meeting. The main ECB interest rate (the refi rate) remains at 1%, the deposit facility rate at 0.25% and the marginal facility rate at 1.75%.

The speech of ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet at 14h30 should not bring surprises. Mr. Trichet is expected to repeat that interest rates are at an appropriate level. He should not announce any new measures. Investors will concentrate on the latest comments on the economy and its prediction on the timing of economic recovery.
