The Pound suffers sharp decline following the minutes of BoE MPC Meeting.
The announcement of the vote for increasing by £50 billion asset purchases at the last meeting pushes investors to liquidate long positions accumulated in Sterling this week.
The market expected a unanimous vote of nine members voting in favor of raising by £50 billion. The Governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, and two other board members (Besley and Miles) voted to raise purchases by £75 billion. This is only the third time that the MPC adopts a decision different from that desired by Mervyn King, since he took office in mid-2003.
The Pound is in dropping sharply, 0.72% against its major rivals, down nearly 1% against the US Dollar, 0.75% against the Euro, 0.82% against the Swiss Franc. As for the "carry trades", after being under pressure, they now appear to be holding their ground.
